3 Great Ways to Boost Your TEFL Employability

13 Great Ways to Boost Your TEFL Employability Kicking off your TEFL career can simply mean booking your plane ticket and getting out there. But, with schools becoming pickier about who they employ, itเนโฌยs worth standing out from the crowd. Follow these three simple tips to leave the competition eating your dust. 1. Do more training You could head out without any qualifications at all, but you wonเนโฌยt get paid much. You could go for the simplest TEFL course, but so do lots of other people. Just adding those extra few hours of study can make all the difference to both your confidence and your employability. A Grammar Awareness Module will improve your confidence in a tricky area, while if you know that your country of choice loves business English or has loads of opportunities for private tuition, do some specialist training. Or you could simply add some classroom training to further boost your enthusiasm and make that first class of your own less daunting. 2. Get some experience There are loads of opportunities that will give you a taste of what life will be like in the classroom. Letเนโฌยs face it volunteering abroad for anything from a couple of weeks to a few months is going to look amazing on your CV. It will not only show that you have a passion for teaching and living in a new country, but you might even help get your foot in the door for a new paid teaching job abroad. You donเนโฌยt have to head overseas to get some teaching experience though, there are always something you could do nearer to home. Keep an eye out for literacy projects that need volunteers or ask at your local school if you could spend some time as a classroom assistant. Anything extra experience you have it going to help you get that first TEFL job! 3. Target your CV/resume The first thing that a potential employer will see if your covering letter and CV, so you need to make sure it stands out from everyone elseเนโฌยs! Keep it simple and succinct; it isnเนโฌยt a chance to show off your vast vocabulary, itเนโฌยs a chance to get started in a new and exciting career. Speaking of sticking to the point, if youเนโฌยre responding to an advert, make sure you read the job description and address each point in sufficient detail. Employers donเนโฌยt just want to know about your เนโฌยexcellent presentation skillsเนโฌย, they want to know what you presented, how regularly and using which computer programme. And avoid lying, because youเนโฌยll only regret it when the interviewer asks about the time you เนโฌยtaught underwater basket weaving to the Bakongo people of Angolaเนโฌย. Even if youเนโฌยre just updating your CV/resume, make sure itเนโฌยs tailored to TEFL by thinking about the key skills, such as leadership and flexibility, that make a great teacher. So thatเนโฌยs it, the perfect starting point for improving your chances of finding work.
